When my son was in the fourth grade, his teacher, Mr. Snarey stated at the beginning of the school year, “No what if questions”. I thought that was so good! Kids just naturally ask the most bizarre questions. So, by putting that disclaimer out there…voila!,no silly questions. Genius!
Since then, I’ve rethought this. Sometimes, we need the what-ifs in our lives. What-if we treated each day as if it was our last day on earth? What if we treated those people that we think will be with us everyday as if it was THEIR last day? What if we tried to change the world with one act of kindness per day? What if, rather than seeing relatives at weddings and funerals…we just randomly stopped by and had an unforgettable moment. What if…we decided to forgive instead of hold a grudge. What if we come alongside someone who is downtrodden or that others think less of? What if…I pushed myself to do a little more than yesterday? What if…it can mean a million other things as this. Why don’t we have some “what if” questions everyday to extend ourselves outside our comfort zone or to reach toward a long forgotten dream.
I apologize to Mr.Snarey for questioning this statement now but…What if, one person could make a difference in this crazy mixed up world?..and What if, that one person was me or you? Just a thought. I think we are so lucky to think about What if.
