My longtime friend and her family lost their mom recently. Today they celebrated her life with memories and heartfelt words from her pastor, friends and granddaughter. These are not easy times when those we love step on to the next step toward eternity.
My daughter stated, “Boy, you have gone to a lot of funerals this year!”. That may be so, but it doesn’t change the uniqueness of each person that we celebrate. I feel that it is important to share how special each person is and the ripple effect they have on the world.
For those of us who had mothers that we admire for the way that they impacted the world around them–I am thankful. Thankful that we had this special gift and by their life, made us who we are.
For those who have not had mothers that they were close to. I feel they were a gift as well, because, again–they made them who they are. Often, others step in to fill that void.
I personally, have lost many people who have been so very close and it is not an easy thing. Yet, I feel so very fortunate to have had them in my life…and they remain. They remain in the way that we remember a silly thing, or an encouragement or just the love that flowed to us through them. Do I wish they were still here to enjoy? Certainly! but, that was not their journey. They are going before us to pave the way.
I pray that the Lord would wrap His loving arms around my friend, and her family. He really is the one who can comfort. I take a long time to grieve when I have lost loved ones. I pray those that are around this family allow them to do the same, if need be.
I am thankful that friend’s mom knew the Lord and the impact she had on those around her. I personally, will always remember her kindness to me and genuine interest. I pray for my friend’s daughter that was so close to her grandma.
They chose the perfect song for this celebration of life as she was honored today: you can read the lyrics here:

For those we love, we wish we had known when it would be the last time. Let that spur us on to hold on to those that remain a little tighter, stay a little longer.
Which I should have done today.
